Chiesa di San Tommaso ai Cenci

The church is already documented from the beginning of the 12th century and titled to St Thomas. In 1554, Julius III granted it to Cardinal Rocco Cenci to incorporate it into the new family building under construction. Work on the church began in 1559 and was completed in 1575. The latter, formerly the Cenci chapel, was granted in 1825 to the Arciconfraternita della Dottrina Cristiana and later to the Confraternita dei Cocchieri (or Vetturini).

The façade has two portals surmounted by triangular tympanums with a dedicatory inscription. Above these are two round oculi and two small windows. In the centre is a decorated cornice that enclosed a fresco that has now disappeared. The interior has a single nave with a cross vault with the Cenci coat of arms in the centre. The high altar consists of two trapezophors from the 1st century A.D. under which is a basin in which, according to tradition, Beatrice Cenci was baptised. On the walls are frescoes by G. Siciolante da Sermoneta (1565) depicting the Stories of the Virgin.
