Congress tourism: Rome climbs the international rankings

depuis 29 Décembre 2023 à 31 Mars 2024

Congress tourism is one of the most interesting segments within the tourism industry, a constantly growing and increasingly profitable business: convention attendees are good customers for both hotels and city businesses, from stores to restaurants, especially since events are generally held outside the peak period and their planning takes place well in advance. International associations that organize conventions and congresses choose destinations through an application process, and being selected frequently helps to increase a city’s prestige and enhance its excellence.

Rome’s success in this area is due both to the number and quality of meeting spaces (ranging from traditional hubs such as the Convention Center at the Nuvola and the Auditorium Parco della Musica to new halls in luxury hotels), and to the city’s beauty and artistic and architectural heritage, which also make it the ideal setting for the meetings industry. That Rome is an increasingly attractive destination for congress tourism is also confirmed by ICCA - International Congress and Convention Association, a worldwide network of convention operators with more than 1,000 members belonging to over 100 countries. According to their data, congresses bring more than a million visitors to the Italian capital each year, with an average of between 3 and 5 thousand people per occasion. Thanks to these results, in the past year Rome has become the top Italian destination for this type of event and has risen from 20th to 14th place in the world. Overall, Italy currently ranks third in the world after the United States and Spain.
