A journey through the emotions, rhythms, and evocative atmospheres of tango: from 30 September to 2 October 2026, the Teatro Olimpico is hosting a performance by the Compagnia del Balletto di Roma on the occasion of the centenary of Astor Piazzolla's birth, the undisputed master of modern tango.
Realised in collaboration with the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Astor. Un secolo di tango is a true dance concert that follows the common thread of ‘courage’, which finds expression in Jorge Luis Borges’ verses dedicated to tango and milonga and in the choice of the visionary and refined Argentine musician and composer who created the “nuevo tango”.
On stage, directed by the Argentine Carlos Branca and choreographed by Valerio Longo, eight dancers from the Balletto di Roma bring to life a performance that evokes universal emotions and the contemporary desires and energies of tango.
The dancers’ bodies reach for one another, intertwine, and come together again, amidst embraces, breaths and moments of fusion, in intense choreographic sequences, to the splendid music of Piazzolla, arranged by Luca Salvadori and performed on the bandoneón by maestro Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, accompanied by the narrating voice of Vincenzo Bocciarelli and the captivating images of Carlo Cerri.
