Italian archery’s elite arrives in the Capital: Fiera Roma hosts the 53rd Campionato Italiano Indoor di Tiro con l’Arco (Italian Indoor Archery Championships), one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the national season. Over 1,300 archers from across Italy are set to compete in the recurve, compound and barebow divisions, alongside youth, senior and master categories. Also taking to the shooting line are members of the Italian national team fresh from the Indoor European Championships in Bulgaria.
The event, held under the patronage of Roma Capitale, is organised by RECAP, an organisation that has distinguished itself over the years through the management of international competitions such as the Roma Archery Trophy (Rome Archery Trophy) 2018 and 2019, and more recently two editions of the Para-Archery Cup and the Europei Para-Archery (European Para-Archery Championships). The 2026 calendar further confirms the city’s central role on the international archery stage, with two major fixtures: the Europei Paralimpici (European Para Championships) from 28 April to 3 May, and the Campionati Europei Giovanili (European Youth Championships) from 20 to 26 July.
For the Italian Championships, two entire halls at Fiera Roma are dedicated to the Tricolori Indoor. Padiglione 8 hosts the 60-arrow qualification round, which determines the head-to-head elimination brackets, followed by the knockout stages. It also features exhibitors and trade stands, creating a vibrant and dynamic area for athletes and enthusiasts alike. Padiglione 7, meanwhile, accommodates the finals field of play, the refreshment area and the training zones — the beating heart of the contests that will award the Italian titles.
Alongside the competitions, organisers have scheduled a series of training courses aimed at clubs and industry professionals. A baby parking service is also available for families, offering practical support to allow parents to enjoy the competition days with greater peace of mind.
The first archers will arrive in Rome as early as Wednesday, with accreditation open from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm. From Thursday, however, the action begins in earnest.
- Thursday: the spotlight is on “arco nudo” (barebow), with qualification rounds in the morning followed by elimination matches and the individual and team gold medal finals at around 8.00 pm.
- Friday: dedicated to the compound division, following the same competition format.
- Saturday and Sunday: attention turns to recurve. On Saturday, class titles will be awarded and the elimination brackets finalised; on Sunday, from approximately 1.00 pm, all head-to-head matches and finals will determine the new Italian champions.
The 2025 edition, held in Pordenone, crowned Federico Musolesi in men’s recurve for his second consecutive title, while Olympic archer Chiara Rebagliati triumphed in the women’s event.
In the compound division — recently added to the Olympic programme for Los Angeles 2028 — the men’s title went for the first time to Michela Godano, while in the women’s competition Marcella Tonioli secured her eighth Italian crown.
In barebow, Simone Barbieri claimed his second consecutive gold medal, while Giulia Mantilli completed a remarkable haul of four national titles.
