From 22 January to 1 February, the famous and entertaining musical returns to Rome at the Teatro Sistina, in the version by Massimo Romeo Piparo.
Based on Sidney Pollack's unforgettable 1982 film, Tootsie made its Broadway debut in 2019, with a libretto by Robert Horn and music and lyrics by David Yazbek. The production achieved great success, receiving 11 Tony Award nominations and winning the awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.
Smart and romantic, the show, described as ‘Broadway's funniest musical’ by The New York Post, tells the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented but unlucky unemployed actor who, to audition for a musical, disguises himself as a woman named Dorothy Michaels, thus getting the role. His growing success as Dorothy brings new complications: Michael falls in love with a female colleague, facing, with the help of his friend Jeff, the difficulties of his fame as an “actress” and the misunderstandings that arise from his double life.
On stage, with sets by Teresa Caruso, choreography by Roberto Croce, and costumes by Cecilia Betona, is an extraordinary cast, including Paolo Conticini (Michael/Dorothy), Mauro Casciari (Jeff), and Beatrice Baldaccini (Julie), bringing to life a lively and contemporary musical that, between fun and emotion, lightly portrays the world of theatre, talking about identity, audacity, feelings and the role of women in society, accompanied by the splendid music of Yazbeck, performed by a live orchestra conducted by Emanuele Friello.
