Four fully accessible floors, with a total area of 1,500 square meters, inside a historic 1920s building purposefully renovated and refurbished, with a large outdoor garden overlooking Viale Manzoni, halfway between Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano and Piazza Vittorio. Promoted by Roma Capitale and Città Metropolitana, the Urban Center Metropolitano was inaugurated in December 2025 as a center for documentation, dissemination and debate on the contemporary city. Its aim is to promote knowledge and the dissemination of urban culture among citizens, institutions, organizations, associations and stakeholders, accompanying them on a journey of discovery of the territory, its architecture, its spaces and their uses.
Each floor of the Urban Centre has a name that reflects its function and mission. The ground floor (Ponte, Bridge), with its courtyard, garden, bookshop and multi-purpose room, was designed as a public space open to all, hosting debates, events, outdoor workshops and performances. Design, teaching and shared work is the mission of the first floor (Cantiere, Construction Site), which houses a workshop for children and a study room with reference texts. The immersive room on the second floor (the Piazza) takes us on a journey of discovery through Rome and the more than one hundred municipalities of the metropolitan city through four themed videos (“Great Transformations: squares, streets and new public spaces”; “NRRP: visions, projects, investments for urban, economic and social regeneration”, “The Tiber” and “Urban planning for children”). The third and top floor (Finestra, Window) is a flexible space designed for temporary exhibitions.
The center offers a rich program of workshops (for schools, families, and adults), meetings, seminars, and events on topics ranging from housing to urban regeneration and sustainability, from archaeological heritage to public policy, and, in general, all the transformations affecting Rome and its metropolitan area. The Metropolitano Urban Center is always open. From Tuesday to Sunday (from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.), visitors can access the garden and 20 study room stations free of charge, consult the 500 volumes available, and organize or participate in co-design groups.
