Piero Mascetti. Echi barocchi e visioni urbane

An immersive journey through oil, color and matter to discover the creative universe of painter Piero Mascetti, born in Rome in 1963.

Promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, organized by Galleria Lombardi and curated by Lorenzo Canova, the exhibition at the Museo Carlo Bilotti in Villa Borghese presents around thirty works by Piero Mascetti, from the 1990s to the present day. The exhibition retraces the painter’s career and the different phases of his artistic research, starting from his formative roots and his dialogue with Roman Baroque.

The works on display testify to his mastery of oil painting and his attention to art history, revealing a strong connection to tradition and, at the same time, the ability to reinterpret it with a personal gaze, in a style suspended between memory and abstraction. The light that vibrates in his brushstrokes takes on an almost spiritual significance and becomes the protagonist of his urban visions, inspired by Rome and other cities, suggesting a journey that is both artistic and existential. The works evoke frenzy, loneliness, ephemeral beauty and everyday life until they dissolve into interior landscapes, rendered through unexpected perspectives and compositional cuts that refer to moods and inner perceptions.

The exhibition concludes with his most recent works, large-format paintings and works on paper designed to interact with the museum space. The final section is dedicated to drawing: the strong, incisive lines do not merely outline shapes, but bring forth unexpected apparitions, presences and enigmatic visions that seem to arise from the unconscious.
