EVOLUTIO Building the future for the last 120 years

A journey through time spanning over a century, exploring the roads, bridges, underground railways, buildings and railways that have changed cities, transport and people’s daily lives. A free exhibition at the Ara Pacis Museum, organized by Webuild, one of the world’s leading players in the construction and civil engineering sector, and promoted by Roma Capitale, the Department of Culture, Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, focuses on Italy’s economic and social development and transformations from the early 1900s to the present day through infrastructure and technological evolution.

Organized into six thematic areas (energy, water, metros, civil and cultural buildings, motorways and high-speed railways, and the know-how of yesterday and today, with photographs and videos from the Webuild archive), the interactive and immersive exhibition spans 120 years of Italian history, showing how the country has evolved from an agricultural nation to an industrial powerhouse. As evidence of this evolution, the exhibition also features a number of works that symbolize the infrastructural excellence of the Italian supply chain around the world, such as the Panama Canal, suspension bridges in Turkey, large dams in Africa, American motorways, and the underground systems of Rome, Milan, Paris, Copenhagen, Doha and Riyadh.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Webuild also presented the first Digital Museum dedicated to infrastructure, a native digital platform that collects and showcases over 400 of the Group’s projects organized into artistic hubs with photos selected from the Webuild historical multimedia archive.
