From 8 to 14 July 2025, the appointment with the Art Nouveau Week returns, the European event dedicated to Art Nouveau or Liberty style, the cultural and artistic movement of the early twentieth century, characterized by sinuous forms inspired by nature and the integration between art and craftsmanship, in its most varied expressions. Now in its seventh edition, the event, curated by Andrea Speziali, is promoted by Italia Liberty and has a scientific and honorary committee; this year's theme is the Butterfly, symbol of transformation and renewal.
A rich calendar of guided tours, in the second week of July, leads citizens and tourists to discover and rediscover the Art Nouveau heritage scattered along the peninsula; each guided tour is led by experts and requires advance booking. A series of asynchronous conferences also involves the public in this unprecedented exhibition to learn about the artistic movement of Art Nouveau in all its facets: literature, graphics, drawing, illustration, painting, sculpture, precious stones, fashion, architecture and cuisine. Some conferences focus on telling the authors of the period and themes such as the female figure. The expert in the field, the teacher Andrea Speziali, in fourteen meetings leads the public to the discovery of unpublished artifacts in Liberty style in the meetings scheduled twice a day throughout the week.
In Lazio region, where there are not many examples of Liberty compared to other Italian regions, also due to the demolition of buildings during the century, something stands out in Rome, such as the villino Ximenes, built in 1902 as the residence and studio of the sculptor Ettore Ximenes, the Prati district with villas decorated by great names such as Cambellotti and Mazzucotelli, the Boncompagni Ludovisi Museum with furnishings, fashion and decorative arts of the twentieth century, the Ludovisi district, a symbol of elegance and urban development at the beginning of the century, with architecture by Koch, Basile and Busiri Vici, the Trieste-Salario district up to the eclectic Quartiere Coppedè, where the Liberty imagery takes shape between symbolism, styles and fairy-tale suggestions and the Casina delle Civette in Villa Torlonia, a masterpiece of Roman Liberty with its glass decorated by artists such as Duilio Cambellotti and Cesare Picchiarini.
