It was built between 1975 and 1979 based on a design by architect Pietro Sanpaolo and inaugurated on 4 March 1979.
The church is a parish church, established on 4 June 1962 with the decree Quo aptius spirituali by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara; it is entrusted to the priests of the Congregation of the Holy Stigmata of Our Lord Jesus Christ (known as the Stimmatini).
A distinctive feature of the church is that it has no façade, but two simple entrances; there is also no bell tower. The floor plan is semi-circular, converging towards the altar. Of interest are the panels of the Way of the Cross and some small stained-glass windows depicting episodes from the Gospel. On the side is a weekday chapel with paintings by F. Conforti Di Natale.
