Films, performances, concerts, exhibitions, meetings, guided tours and much more to enjoy a summer of culture and entertainment, but also of inclusion and participation. The extensive program of initiatives (with free or reduced admission) promoted by Roma Capitale - Department of Culture for the hottest months of the year, from 15 June to 15 October, celebrates the identity and history of Rome and is an opportunity to rediscover streets, squares, parks, beaches and neighborhoods from a new perspective.
Once again this year, cinematography is one of the big stars of the summer, with around 50 open-air cinemas, most of which are free to enter, scattered throughout the city, from Parco degli Acquedotti to Corviale, from Casa del Cinema of Villa Borghese to Tor Bella Monaca, Cervelletta and Idroscalo di Ostia. The programs vary in terms of themes and offerings: classic and contemporary films, films in original version and retrospectives, as well as meetings with Italian and international directors and actors. From 27 June to 14 September, special attention is given to the Roman coastline with “Ostia. Un Mare di Cultura” (Ostia. A Sea of Culture), a program of free weekend events, plus initiatives such as Felicittà, the Ostia Queer Festival and the Punta Sacra Film Fest.
Music and theater events include, for example, the travelling project OperaCamion, Summertime at the the Casa del Jazz, the De André Award in the Magliana district, and the first edition of the Teatro Ostia Antica Festival, plus Short Theatre, the international festival dedicated to contemporary creation and performing arts, and the 40th edition of the Romaeuropa Festival, two months of music, dance, theatre, digital arts and creations for children. On 18 July, the Linea Opera bus line will take the public to the premiere of La Traviata on the stage of the Caracalla Festival. Shows, performances, productions and activities for children are at the heart of the offering of TiC Teatri in Comune, the network of city theaters that spans the entire capital. An important part of the summer program is also devoted to literature, with the 18th edition of Ebraica - International Festival of Culture (in June) and LETTERATURE International Festival of Rome (in July).
The art and culture offerings cover a wide range of areas, from archaeology to contemporary art, photography to multimedia installations: exhibitions and educational activities are scheduled throughout the summer months in the Civic Museums and exhibition spaces of the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo (Palazzo Esposizioni Roma, MACRO and Mattatoio di Testaccio). Admission is free for all to the special evening openings of Villa of Maxentius, which offers visitors the splendor of its new artistic lighting. Various projects are lastly linked to the public notice “ROMA CREATIVA 365 Cultura tutto l’anno” and “OPEN25 - ARTES ET IUBILAEUM”, a program of events promoted by the associations that won the tender during the jubilee year, including tours, performances, visual arts, community gastronomic experiences and the promotion of historical and artistic heritage.
