From December 18th to 20th, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, presents Gustav Mahler's monumental Symphony No. 3 with the Accademia's Orchestra, Choir, and Children's Choir conducted by Daniel Harding, one of the most esteemed Mahler interpreters on the international scene.
Mahler's Symphony No. 3 in D minor, composed between 1893 and 1896 and first performed in 1902, is the longest symphony in the symphonic repertoire. The central theme of this six-movement symphony is the relationship between humanity and nature, beginning with the primordial birth of nature, moving on to the whisper of flowers, the swarming of animals, and finally arriving at the voice of man searching for answers in the night and the innocent song of angels. A symphony that aspired to "contain the whole world"—as the composer himself intended. Daniel Harding's conducting promises an intense and vivid performance, capable of enhancing this splendid work in all its nuances.
