Fontana dell'Anfora

This fountain with Anfora (Amphora) was built in 1931 by the architect Raffaele De Vico and is located inside the September 8 Resistance Park, originally named Cestio Park in reference to the nearby Cestia Pyramid, but later dedicated to the war events that occurred on September 8, 1943 near Porta S. Paolo. The name Cestio Park has remained for the small sector of green space that is located on the other side of Via Marmorata that belongs to the Testaccio district.
The Fountain consists of a large circular basin flush with the ground, in the center of which, above an octagonal travertine base, rises a bronze amphora fitted with eight spouts resembling raised proboscises that emit as many spouts. Water also escapes from a central gush and from eight holes drilled in the belly of the wineskin.
