The Paul VI Audience Hall in the Vatican hosts the fifth edition of the Concerto con i Poveri - Concert with the Poor, a musical journey to celebrate beauty and charity through the universal language of art. The four previous editions have featured some of the top names in the international music scene, such as Daniel Oren, Ennio Morricone and Nicola Piovani.
Together with Maestro Marco Frisina, composer Dario Vero and Grammy-nominated cellist Tina Guo, this year’s special guest is Hans Zimmer, composer and music producer with 12 nominations and 2 Academy Awards. Author of some famous soundtracks (e.g., for “The Lion King”, “Gladiator” and “Interstellar”), Hans Zimmer will play and introduce his most famous pieces, alternating with Maestro Mons. Marco Frisina, who will perform some of the pieces he composed for religious-themed films, accompanied by the Nova Opera Orchestra, composed of 70 musicians from all over Europe, and the 250 elements of the Choir of the Diocese of Rome, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.
More than 3,000 of the total 8,000 seats in the hall are reserved for the less fortunate: homeless people, migrants, detainees with special permits, and those living in mental and social distress. They are invited through the Dicastery for the Service of Charity - Office of the Papal Almoner and many associations in the area, including Caritas of Rome and Lazio, the Community of Sant'Egidio and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. At the end of the concert, they will be offered a take-away dinner and other comfort items as usual. Public participation in the concert is by invitation ticket, subject to mandatory completion of the form available from 18 November 2024 on the event’s official website.
