A great and eagerly awaited return to the Teatro Sistina; after the extraordinary success of the last edition, the compelling musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice is about to captivate the audience once again in the historical version by Massimo Romeo Piparo.
Following the release of the groundbreaking 1970 double album starring Ian Gillan, frontman of Deep Purple, the show debuted on Broadway in the autumn of 1971 with extraordinary success, later inspiring the 1973 cult film by Norman Jewison. The rock opera, one of the best-loved ever, narrates the last week of the life of the symbolic figure of Jesus-Man, staged by a group of young hippies to the rhythm of unforgettable songs such as Superstar, I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Hosanna, Heaven on Their Minds, Everything’s Alright.
The musical, which over the years has seen famous artists on stage - including Ted Neeley, Anggun, Max Gazzè, Amii Stewart, Giorgio Faletti, Elio, Frankie Hi-NRG and Lorenzo Licitra - features an exceptional and new cast, accompanied by a live orchestra, conducted by Maestro Emanuele Friello.
Jesus Christ Superstar is a show of overwhelming impact that transformed the history of musical theatre, still able to thrill people of all ages with its message of spirituality and courage.
