Harmonies in Movement

The Harmonies in Movement music and dance event, organized by the Domus Danae APS Culture Center with the participation of the Millennium Dance Group Company, takes place at the House-Museum of Hendrik Christian Andersen, and is a project that intends to enhance both the collection and the figure of this great artist, whose desire has always been to open his atelier and the adjoining home to cultural initiatives, in particular music and dance, with the aim of bringing the public closer to art.

In fact, according to Andersen's conception, art had to be unique, and the different artistic expressions had to be understood as "sisters", harmonizing with each other and tending towards the creation of a World Consciousness of peace and brotherhood. Thus the exhibition is divided into a musical program in four acts, two of which are accompanied by dance performances and readings of texts taken from the Diaries of Olivia Cushing, sister-in-law and supporter of the sculptor, and from the letters that Henry James wrote to Hendrik Andersen, in which reference is made to music as the artistic form most capable of connecting all other forms of expression.

Among the artists and songs on programme, we highlight: Neos Saxophone which offers a selection of songs dedicated to peace and universal brotherhood, reworked for saxophone octet with the accompaniment of the dance troupe of the Millennium Dance Group Company. Among the music chosen, some famous soundtracks from films that dealt with these themes will be proposed.

Another appointment is the one entitled The diary of Eva, based on a text by Mark Twain, with music by Silvia D'Augello and an interpretation by Emilia Agnesa (reciting voice), Sabrina Cortese (soprano) and D'Augello (piano); the text is taken from the famous novel by Twain, a contemporary of Andersen. This represents the three ways of understanding and talking about Eve, the first woman of creation: the rational voice of discovery, the song of feelings and the music born from the beauty of novelty, with a passionate and engaging style.

The exhibition closes with the Apeiron Saxophon Quartet, which offers a journey through Andersen's contemporary musical genres, with the aim of reconstructing a soundtrack of his life, at the moment in which he published his famous work World Center of Communication (1913). The concert includes musical pieces from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and a contemporary composition by Fausto Sebastiani. As a tribute to the American artist, songs from African-American culture and tradition are proposed, such as jazz and ragtime, today considered the maximum musical expression of the North American tradition.

The concerts are included in the entrance ticket to the House Museum - admission subject to availability.
