It has its seat in the Fondazione Scuola Nazionale di Cinema, previous Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. It was founded in 1935 on initiative of some scholars and directors in order to study and promote cinema culture. The Film archive is the only Italian institution that has the duty of collecting, caring, reproducing, restoring the whole Italian cinema. In the last years films of great importance for the history of Italian cinema have been restored: La terra trema, Roma città aperta, Sciuscià, Rocco e i suoi fratelli, Il Gattopardo. The whole cinematographic heritage amounts to a total of about 25,000 titles. It is a cultural heritage of inestimable value, available for students, scholars, film fans. Notes: To watch the movie it is necessary to book and pay an amount that depends of the film requested.
