Food. Il gusto nell'arte

From 17 October 2026 to 28 March 2027, the Chiostro del Bramante hosts Food. Il gusto nell’arte (Food. Taste in Art), an exhibition dedicated to food as a language of art.

Curated by Suzanne Landau, the exhibition takes the public on a surprising journey through the centuries and across continents into the universe of food, both as a visual representation and as a matter, that evokes memories and desires and becomes a mirror of society.

Produced and organised by DART – Chiostro del Bramante, Food. Il gusto nell’arte explores the many dimensions of food over the centuries: an integral part of daily life, but also an expression of identity, traditions, rituals and social changes; food offers an insight into the relationships between the individual and the community, the natural environment and the cultural dimension, continuity and change. The exhibition also highlights how food, from a depicted subject, becomes a tangible part of the artwork itself, a means of expression that engages the senses and perceptions and creates connections between art, culture and society.

The exhibition path brings together historical, modern and contemporary works, ranging from the sixteenth century to latest developments in artistic research, from still lifes to large-scale installations, organised into thematic sections dedicated to still life, the body, the table and the kitchen, memory, play, design, global exchanges, ecology and cinema.

The exhibition benefits from prestigious institutional partnerships,  including the Ville e Residenze monumentali fiorentine Villa Medicea di Poggio a Caiano, with 17 restored works; the Fondazione Museo Archivio Richard Ginori della Manifattura di Doccia, with three historic tableware sets; the Fondazione Brescia Musei; the Barberini Corsini National Galleries; the Borghese Gallery; Garum – Biblioteca e Museo della Cucina, the University of Rome Tor Vergata, the Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital and the Coldiretti.
