La Parola che illumina... la Fontana di Trevi

For one night, the Trevi Fountain will be transformed into a luminous page, bathed in light and poetry, as part of a spectacular free event organised by the Luigi Einaudi Foundation’s “Osservatorio Carta, Penna & Digitale”. The event aims to remind everyone of the beauty of reading and writing through an installation curated by light artist Marco Nereo Rotelli, accompanied by the voice of actor and voice-over artist Luca Ward.

The event will begin in the late afternoon (at 6.30 pm) in the Sala Vicus Caprarius at Harry’s Bar Trevi. The Observatory’s director, Andrea Cangini, alongside Erri De Luca, Luca Ward and Marco Nereo Rotelli will discuss the importance of writing by hand in cursive and reading printed books in the age of digital technology, the digital age, dominated by the proliferation of artificial intelligence and social media.

In the evening (at 9 pm), the performance will move to the area in front of the fountain. Luca Ward will read “Appunti di un amanuense”, a text written especially for the occasion by Erri De Luca. At the same time, Marco Nereo Rotelli will write some of the most significant phrases on an overhead projector, before projecting them onto the water and the surface of the monument.
