Di là dal fiume 2026 (Across the River 2026)

From August 23rd to September 14th, the Di là dal fiume 2026 (Across the River 2026) festival will take place, produced by the cultural association Teatroinscatola ETS, under the artistic direction of Lorenzo Ciccarelli.

The festival, now in its ninth edition, is free and is organized under the patronage of the Municipalities I and VI, the Japanese Cultural Institute, and the Carlo Collodi National Foundation, in collaboration with CAE and Testaccio Estate.

The festival opens with the cinema section at the CAE, Rome's former slaughterhouse, as part of Testaccio Estate and the Città dell'Altra Economia. Also at the CAE, a workshop was organized by "Per fare un gioco," a Roman cultural association led by artist and set designer Roberto Capone, which involved children interacting and coloring large-scale animal installations.

The event continues with a tribute to the masters of animated cinema Emanuele Luzzati and Giulio Gianini, two-time Oscar nominees, first at the cinema hall of the Municipio VI (Tor Bella Monaca), then at the Casa dei Bimbi.

Starting with the bicentenary of the birth of Carlo Lorenzini (1826-2026), aka Carlo Collodi, Teatroinscatola places the relationship between Art and Childhood at the centre of this edition of the festival: eleven events bring six spaces to life with readings, screenings, concerts, installations, exhibitions, and guided tours. The connection between Rome and children is deeply rooted in the city's founding legend, and today the capital offers a wide selection of educational spaces, interactive museums, and theme parks designed specifically for children. A key feature of the Festival is its simultaneous involvement of multiple locations, including unusual ones to discover.

The CAE will also feature a meeting with Raffaella Milano, Director of Save the Children's Italy-Europe Programs and, from 2001 to 2008, Councilor for Social Policies for the City of Rome, and art historian Giuseppe Garrera.

The event ends with a visit to the former Orphanage of the Marcigliana Nature Reserve, built in 1933 within the Roman Agricultural Colony of Bufalotta.

The following are involved in this ninth edition: the CAE at the former slaughterhouse in Testaccio, the Teatro La Comunità in Trastevere, the cinema hall of the VI Municipio in Tor Bella Monaca, La Casa dei Bimbi (municipal library located in the centre of a park in the Cinecittà Est neighborhood), the sixteenth-century Palazzo Rospigliosi in Zagarolo, and the Marcigliana Nature Reserve.
