The Tangier Acrobatic Group debuts at the Brancaccio Theater

The Groupe Acrobatique de Tanger returns to the Romaeuropa Festival, debuting at the Brancaccio Theater with the show KA-IN, which, thanks to its overwhelming energy, brings traditional Moroccan acrobatics into a contemporary setting.

In the show, the artistic work of choreographer Raphaëlle Boitel, thirteen dancers bring to life a formal writing of great precision, both physical and choreographic, capable of maintaining a tension of momentum, control and vertigo.

What emerges is a chiaroscuro dance circus, in which, heirs to the Moroccan acrobatic tradition linked to amazigh - or Berber - culture, the artists move as a compact organism from which, at times, individualities seeking affirmation emerge. KA-IN represents a stage machine in which virtuosity is coordinated in a rigorous, mobile form, permeated by a vitality that represents the relationship between belonging, identity, and the desire for the future.

The Tangier Acrobatic Group was founded by Sanae El Kamouni, who in 2003 brought together a group of Moroccan acrobats to explore contemporary artistic expressions. Convinced that these artists could create a new narrative, she invited director Aurélien Bory to Tangier to create the first contemporary Moroccan acrobatic show. The Group has staged numerous pieces, including "TAOUB" (Aurélien Bory, 2004), "Chouf Ouchouf" (Zimmermann & de Perrot, 2009), "Azimut" (Aurélien Bory, 2013), and "Halka" (a collective creation by the Tangier Acrobatic Group, with Abdeliazide Senhadji as guest artist, 2016). The Group places popular culture, a militant and democratic culture accessible to all, at the heart of its project; its priorities are to question, preserve, and promote Moroccan acrobatics. Its approach is based on the constant search for connections between an ancestral art and contemporary creation, a region and its people. In this dual dialectic - tradition and contemporary creation, Morocco (in Africa) and France (in Europe) - the Groupe Acrobatique de Tanger engages with contemporary world issues, aligned with the most innovative research in contemporary circus.
