Air India has launched its new nonstop service to Rome Fiumicino, with four weekly flights. The Indian flag carrier has returned to the Italian capital after a nearly six-year absence, expanding its presence in continental Europe: Rome is Air India's eighth gateway in Europe.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new direct flight was attended by a delegation composed of H.E. Vani Rao, Ambassador of India to Italy and San Marino; Gaurav Gandhi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India (Rome); Swaminathan Krishnamoorthy, Chief Registrar at the Embassy of India (Rome); and representatives of Aeroporti di Roma, who also inaugurated the flight departing from the Italian capital and landing in Delhi. For the occasion, the authorities also celebrated the event with a traditional Indian ceremony, including the lighting of a ritual lamp, the cutting of a cake, and the awarding of an award to the first passenger to board.
The Rome flight operates on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays with B787-8 aircraft, configured in a two-class configuration: 18 fully lie-flat Business Class seats and 241 spacious Economy Class seats. The flight schedule has been designed to accommodate connections via Delhi to various destinations in India and Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam. This structured schedule allows travelers from Italy to easily access the carrier's international and domestic network.
