The Teatro del Lido di Ostia offers us a staged reading based on Alessandro Baricco's book of the same name, in which six of Homer's characters, three male - Demodocus, Antilochus, and Priam -and three female - Chryseis, Helen, and Andromache - enter the stage to tell, in a voice reminiscent of our own, the adventure of their story, filled with strong passions and bloodshed, namely the Trojan War, in which they are the protagonists, while the deities remain in the background of the narrative.
The evocative and powerful voices of great Homeric characters, brought to us from a distant past, lost between myth and history, narrate the events of the Iliad in the first person. The protagonists are men and women with their weaknesses, strengths, feelings, and fears, who, in a text that seems to celebrate war, paradoxically reveal a deep inclination for peace. At centre stage, Massimo Wertmuller and Anna Ferruzzo give voice and substance to one of the oldest and most fascinating stories ever told, while live music by Pino Cangialosi provides a captivating backdrop to a fluid, elegant, and uncluttered prose, capable of preserving the charm of the ancient world intact.
With Massimo Wertmuller and Anna Ferruzzo; original music performed live by Pino Cangialosi.
