Da Vienna a Roma. Le Meraviglie degli Asburgo dal Kunsthistorisches Museum

From 6 March to 5 July 2026, in a cultural dialogue between Vienna and Rome, Palazzo Cipolla hosts an extraordinary exhibition project born from a collaboration with the Kunsthistorisches Museum, one of the most prestigious museums in Europe.

Curated by KHM art historian Cäcilia Bischoff, the exhibition features, for the first time in Italy, a refined selection of over fifty masterpieces from the Viennese Museum, retracing four centuries of European painting, from the Renaissance to the Baroque.

On display are works of extraordinary value, commissioned and acquired between the 16th and 19th centuries by eminent members of the Austrian imperial family and created by the greatest masters in the history of European art, such as Peter Paul Rubens, Diego Velázquez, Jan Brueghel the Elder, Anthony van Dyck, and Lucas Cranach, and by the greatest interpreters of Italian creative genius, from Titian to Tintoretto, from Veronese to Arcimboldo and Orazio Gentileschi.

The exhibition path clearly reflects the historical and cultural identity of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, designed by Gottfried Semper and Carl Hasenauer, whose architecture is the focus of a special section. The exhibition is enriched by a parallel dialogue between Semper and Antonio Cipolla, architect of Palazzo Cipolla, as well as a splendid selection from the Kunstkammer, one of Europe's most evocative chambers of wonders, which combines the enchantment of nature and the creations of human ingenuity among splendour, fascination and curiosity.
