Conventionally celebrated on 29 April, International Dance Day symbolically brings together countries from all over the world. The celebration was established in 1982, when the International Dance Council – C.I.D. officially created the occasion with the aim of honouring one of humanity’s most universal forms of expression.
It is precisely to celebrate dance as a shared cultural heritage that Agorà was created.
The event seeks to promote the culture of dance to a wider audience, while also encouraging the entire sector to move beyond divisions and individual interests, coming together in a great collective celebration. Because dance is a universal language, a meeting point between cultures and a powerful tool for inclusion.
Agorà is a great celebration of dance that transcends every barrier and boundary: dance that connects, communicates and recognises itself as part of humanity’s shared heritage.
The protagonists of the event are thousands of dancers from across Italy, who on 26 April 2026 will dance along Via dei Fori Imperiali, transforming one of the most historically rich locations in Rome into the beating heart of global dance.
Following the extraordinary success of the previous edition, AssoDanza Italia once again brings the stars of dance to shine in the Eternal City, with an ambitious goal: to reach 10,000 participants and create the largest ballet class in the world.
At Agorà, dance takes centre stage in all its forms. And what better way to celebrate it than through a vibrant, open and welcoming platform? Young people and adults alike can take part in classes, performances and flash mobs, in an explosion of energy and beauty that will engage not only the audience present, but also those watching via live streaming from around the world.
Making the event even more special will be some of the greatest stars of Italian and international dance.
The major new feature for 2026 is the DANCE POWER PARADE – La danza non ha età (Dance Has No Age): the world’s first flash mob dedicated to dancers over 40. A powerful and symbolic moment designed to show that dance goes far beyond aesthetic movement: it becomes vital energy, strength, empowerment and even healing.
Set to the notes of “Dancing Queen”, the iconic hit by ABBA, groups and dance associations will bring to life a passion for dance at every age, demonstrating how movement can nourish both body and mind, while becoming a meaningful way to address social challenges and promote wellbeing, connection and community.
The programme may be subject to change.
