A historical debut at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, which, from 7 to 14 April, presents, as part of the Doppio Sogno season, Georg Friedrich Händel's first majestic oratorio in collaboration with the Salzburger Festspiele.
A jewel of Baroque music, Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno, reworked several times by the German composer, is an allegorical work that explores the transience of life, the vanity of pleasures and the power of truth. It was composed in 1707 at the request of Roman Cardinal Benedetto Pamphilj, author of the libretto, and staged for the first time in Rome.
The event is directed by the renowned Canadian director Robert Carsen, who proposes a version inspired by the format of television talent shows, and also curates the lighting with Peter van Praet, against the backdrop of scenes by Gideon Davey and videos by Rocafilm.
On stage is an extraordinary cast - Johanna Wallroth (Bellezza), Ed Lyon (Tempo), Anna Bonitatibus (Piacere), Raffaele Pe (Disinganno) - accompanied by the Orchestra del Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, conducted by Gianluca Capuano, a renowned specialist in the Baroque repertoire.
