The Villa Medici Film Festival returns from September 10 to 14, 2025, with 40 screenings held both inside and outside the Villa Medici. The event, now in its fifth edition, features a program that also includes meetings with directors and artists who are redefining the language of the moving image.
The festival offers five days of screenings in the historic spaces of Villa Medici, with twelve films in competition, three cinemas, including an outdoor screen seating 500 people per evening; forty international films, with two awards awarded at the end of the festival: one for Best Film and a Special Jury Prize. A collaboration with Librairie 7L has been created for a selection of books on cinema. This year's jury includes Alain Guiraudie, Guslagie Malanda, and Anri Sala.
Since its inception in 2021, the Villa Medici Film Festival has explored the connections between cinema and contemporary art, welcoming a variety of narratives that highlight our relationship with images. These include artists' films, essays, fiction, documentaries, short films, medium-length films, and feature films. The festival is divided into three sections: the international competition, featuring twelve recent films of all genres and lengths; the Focus program, dedicated to works out of competition, "carte blanche" entrusted to the jurors, and special meetings with directors; and finally, the Piazzale evenings, featuring outdoor screenings of premieres and restored classics.
