The parish was erected on 1 March 1964 by Cardinal Vicar Clemente Micara and entrusted to the priests of the Opus Dei Personal Prelature.On 28 October 1985, Card. Ugo Poletti by his decree confirmed to the Ministry of the Interior the title of parish to the Church of St. John the Baptist al Collatino for the recognition of its civil juridical personality.The parish complex was inaugurated by Paul VI on 21 November 1965, in the presence of Cardinal Luigi Traglia, Vicar General of His Holiness, St Josemarìa Escrivà de Balaguer, Founder of Opus Dei, and a large group of Conciliar Fathers participating in the Second Vatican Council.
The territory was taken from that of S. Maria della Visitazione in Casal Bruciato and San Giuseppe Artigiano on the Via Tiburtina.Recognition for civil effects was decreed on 5 June 1965.
