The parish was erected on 10 May 1934, with the decree of Cardinal Vicar Francesco Marchetti Selvaggiani Quo melius, which transferred the rights and revenues of the suppressed parish of S. Nicola in Carcere to the church of S. Filippo Neri. It was entrusted first to the priests of the Congregation of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence, then to the Religious of St. Vincent de Paul and, finally, since September 1977, to the diocesan clergy of Rome. The church was inaugurated by the Vice-Governor of Rome H.E. Monsignor Luigi Traglia on 29 May 1937.The territory, deduced from that of the parishes of S. Maria delle Grazie alle Fornaci and S. Francesco d'Assisi a Monte Mario, was determined within the following boundaries: The whole territory to the right of Via della Madonna del Riposo - Via di Torre Rossa - Via Aurelia Antica from Via di Torre Rossa to Via Aurelia - the boundary of the diocese of Rome with the diocese of Porto-S. Rufina from Via Aurelia to Via di Torrevecchia (on the Via di Boccea) - Via di Torrevecchia as far as Via del Casale di Primavalle - said Via - Via della Pineta Sacchetti from Via del Casale di Primavalle to the bridge over the Rome-Viterbo railway line - Rome-Viterbo railway line- Viterbo as far as the Aurelio plateau - line of said plateau including all the properties with upstream entrance - bridge over the Rome-Viterbo railway at the height of the forward spur of the Vatican Walls - Via Aurelia (including the former Villa Staderini) - Via Madonna del Riposo.Recognition for civil effects of the vicariate measure was decreed on 3 April 1942. The real estate is owned by the Pontifical Work for the Preservation of the Faith and the Provision of New Churches in Rome. The architectural project, realised in 1964, is by Tullio Rossi. The perimeter of the church is bordered by a gate, on which are inions from the New Testament. The building, which traces Romanesque forms, has a façade preceded by a large brick portico; in the upper part of the façade is a large circular window with polychrome stained glass. The church is flanked by a bell tower and a small cloister. The entrance portal, dated 1989, is made of bronze: under the inion Iesus Christus heri et hodie idem in specula are ten scenes from the New Testament. The interior has three naves, divided by brick pillars, with a reinforced concrete truss ceiling. The church was visited by Pope John Paul II on 27 November 1983.
