The parish was established on 20 October 1989 under the name of St. William, and was renamed in 2008; the church was consecrated on 20 March 2011 by Benedict XVI (the foundation stone was laid on 25 June 2006).The parish complex that includes the church, measuring approximately 2,200 m², was built according to plans by architect Umberto Riva. It offers an identical perspective to the faithful coming from Via Wolf Ferrari and Via Cilea, with the intention of presenting itself as a welcoming home visible to all.
The complex is organised in two sections joined by a central junction through which access is gained to two structures dedicated to worship and moments of aggregation, meetings and catechetical activity. The first structure is in turn divided into three areas: the central church, the weekday chapel and the priests' accommodation and services area. A long side corridor leads to the entrance from the living quarters and to the rear junction adjacent to the oratory area. The second structure includes the parish offices, catechetical rooms and the parish hall of approximately 200 m², including services. There is also a large inner courtyard, for sports, recreational and social activities, and a parking area.
The eponymous cardinal's title insists on the church.
