Great masterpieces beloved by all and avant-garde or experimental films, not forgetting some gems from the silent era. Palazzo Esposizioni hosts the 14th edition of one of the most eagerly awaited film events, bringing to an audience of enthusiasts the history of cinema in all its surprising richness. As usual, thanks to the collaboration with the Sindacato Nazionale Critici Cinematografici Italiani (National Union of Italian Film Critics), each of the films in the program until 27 May is introduced and explained by a different critic, to provide the audience with an extra interpretative key during the viewing.
Always inextricably linked to the love of 35mm film, this year the event also opens up to some digital restorations, for example Charles Vidor’s “Gilda”, the film that consecrated Rita Hayworth, presented in the 4K restorations made for the Columbia Pictures Centennial. Amongst the lesser-known titles or experimental cinema, Max Ophuls‘ “The Reckless Moment”, Dreyer’s “Day of Wrath”, Robert Bresson’s “Mouchette” and a selection of films made between 1927 and 1929 by Germaine Dulac (“La coquille et le clergyman”, “Thèmes et variations”, “Disque 957”, “Étude cinégraphique sur un arabesque”), considered by many to be the first feminist director in the history of cinema.
All titles are showed on 35mm film, in original version with subtitles. Admission is free while places last with compulsory reservation.
