The Osa-Gabii and San Vittorino itineraries are located in one of the most beautiful and interesting areas of the extreme territory of the Municipality VI: that which constitutes the eastern slope of the great plain surrounding Rome and is called Agro Romano Antico, a triangle of territory delimited by three consular roads (Tiburtina, Prenestina and Casilina/Labicana); an area bordering several municipalities of the metropolitan area of Rome.
The Agro Romano Antico and, in particular, its portion of territory in the Municipality VI, is characterised by a strong presence of naturalistic and historical-archaeological resources, not yet widely exploited.
In some of its parts, it shows the maintenance of a structure that has favoured its natural isolation and that, fortunately, has not yet been heavily affected by the building process that has invaded much of the periphery of the metropolitan area of Rome. This has favoured an articulated sedimentation of the many traces of the past (Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, Modern times, etc.) and an integration of the different forms of use that have succeeded one another over time, which are still strongly connected and visible in the relations between the natural and man-made environment (e.g. the Roman aqueducts, the system of hilly urban centres, the suburban Roman villas, the farmhouses and large noble estates, etc.).
There are still many paths where nature and culture are often inextricably intertwined and which can be travelled on foot.
A territory rich in persistent beauty, first of all to be opened to the communities that inhabit it, so that they may rediscover its genius loci, experience it in a creative and participatory way in its fruition; they may regenerate mind and body and, through the rediscovery of its value, also recover the pleasure of living the area and taking care of it.
Ours is a society that hides its rural history and forgets the vital intertwining of country and city that has always characterised it. Whereas the spirit of place is what survives the constant changes in an area and gives it an indistinguishable and unique character.
The aim is to start again from the spirit of these places and from what history has left us in order to re-read them together with its inhabitants of today and with all those, citizens and tourists, who wish to discover and appreciate it, but also to take care of it and value it as a legacy to its inhabitants and visitors of tomorrow.
The event is part of the project Unexpected Itineraries of Rome - CUP J89I22001930001 - Financed by the Measure Great Destinations for Sustainable Tourism (Sheet No. 51) of the Ministry of Tourism's Development and Cohesion Plan (PSC), approved by resolution CIPESS of 3 November 2021 No. 58.
