Tomba di Nerone (sepolcro di Vibio Mariano)

On the left-hand side of the modern via Cassia, inside a public park, is the funerary monument erroneously called since the Middle Ages the Tomb of Nero. It is a big marble sarcophagus with a double-pitched cover placed on a high base. The grave actually belonged to Publius Vibius Marianus, procurator of Sardinia, and his wife Regina Maxima. On the sarcophagus front, in the centre, is an inscription that mentions the names of the dead couple, on its sides are the Dioscuri. The monument dates back to the third century AD.
