Based on the concepts of memory and trust, the production staged at the Teatro India stems from the collaboration between pianist Andrea Rebaudengo and choreographer Diego Tortelli, through an almost immediate creative process. The work, created alongside dancers Tom Van de Ven and Cristian Cucco – who have shared the choreographer’s artistic journey for years – is a hypnotic and intense piece driven by the repetitive rhythms of composer Philip Glass.
With its slowly evolving melodic fragments, the American composer’s music, performed live, highlights the compositional processes rather than the final composition of the work. It is the foundation upon which the dancers continually construct and reconstruct their presence. The dancers move through fragile and delicate choreographic patterns, leading them to alternate between precisely structured choreographic moments and moments of improvisation.
The title of the show thus takes on a double meaning: “Bodies on Glass” refers both to “bodies dancing to Glass’s music” and to “bodies on glass” – bodies that glide to the musical notes, leaving fleeting imprints on the transparent surface of the fragile glass.
