Sport is not just about competition: it is a catalyst for development, innovation and growth. Rome demonstrates this through a model capable of attracting major international events, generating investment, enhancing infrastructure and boosting its appeal as a tourist and cultural destination. The event at the Protomoteca in Piazza del Campidoglio is the result of a collaboration between Roma Capitale and the Il Sole 24 ORE Group. It provides a forum for discussion between institutions, sports federations, experts and representatives from the academic world on strategies, figures and prospects of an ecosystem that transforms sport into a tangible driver of economic development and value creation for the city and the country..
The discussion will start from a study by the Il Sole 24 ORE Research Centre on sporting events held in the city during the three-year period 2023-2025. Its findings will be presented exclusively early in the morning. Following the opening address by Mayor Roberto Gualtieri, the proceedings will be opened by Alessandro Onorato, Councillor for Major Events, Sport, Tourism and Fashion at Roma Capitale, and will feature the participation of, amongst others, Luciano Buonfiglio (President of CONI), Marco Mezzaroma (President of Sport e Salute), Paolo Bellino (Chief Executive and General Manager of RCS Sports & Events) and Angelo Binaghi (President of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation).
This event is part of the Roma Smart Tourism - Azione 3 “Smart Events” project, promoted by Roma Capitale with funding from the Ministry of Tourism within the framework of the fund in favor of municipalities with cultural, historical, artistic, and landscape heritage, whose territories include sites recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. Participation (online or in person) is free of charge.
