The new Spanish Embassy in Italy in Piazza Navona hosts the photography exhibition Spagna e Italia: 50 anni da incorniciare. Un percorso fotografico degli ultimi cinque decenni di rapporto bilaterale (Spain and Italy: 50 Years to Frame. A photographic journey through the last five decades of bilateral relations), the exhibition offers a glimpse into recent history and the increasingly intense dialogue between the two nations. Presented by the Spanish Embassy in Italy and the EFE Agency, the exhibition highlights how—through 40 images from the EFE archive—since the years of Spain's democratic transition, Italians and Spaniards have forged a deep, daily bond, initiating cultural, political, and social collaboration on a common ground of growth.
The images on display capture moments that contributed to shaping a shared imagination, starting from a concrete relationship made up of encounters, exchanges, and symbolic gestures. The images, though from different eras, continue to recount the spontaneity of institutional relationships, the evolution of media languages, and the power of sporting events experienced on both sides of the Mediterranean. The exhibition also highlights the contributions of artists, writers, filmmakers, professors, and professionals who have expanded the shared cultural space. Among them are numerous Italian figures awarded the Prince and Princess of Asturias Award, a testament to the international recognition of their role in the cultural dialogue between the two countries.
The exhibition thus retraces fifty years of history, during which Spain and Italy learned to understand and recognize each other naturally within a common European horizon, celebrating the continuity and vitality of a relationship that continues to renew itself.
