From 1 May, ITA Airways will open bookings for its new intercontinental flight between Leonardo da Vinci International Airport in Rome Fiumicino and Houston, Texas – the first-ever direct connection between the two cities – thereby consolidating Rome’s role as a key hub in the Italian flag carrier’s long-haul strategy.
The route is operated by an Airbus A330-900, a new-generation aircraft combining efficiency, digital innovation and Made in Italy design, with three weekly flights in May (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday) and five from June to October (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday).
The new direct flight strengthens ITA Airways’ presence in North America, the airline’s main international market, where it already operates direct flights to eight destinations – New York, Boston, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C., and, during the summer season, Chicago and Toronto as well. The expansion to Houston is part of a broader strategy that has also included, for example, ITA Airways’ official entry into Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline alliance, which was completed at the beginning of April.
