The result of collaboration between the departments of Roma Capitale and dialogue with local residents, the park on Via Ipponio is a new green oasis covering over 1,000 square meters, created through the renaturalisation of an area adjacent to Porta Metronia, one of the gates in the Aurelian Walls.
In a part of the city long occupied by the Metro C construction site for the opening of the new stations, the park is a completely new space to enjoy. It will improve the local microclimate and help to reduce the “urban heat island effect” in a very busy traffic junction, between Via dell’Amba Aradam, Via Gallia and the nearby entrance to Via Colombo.
What was once a tarmac road is now a redeveloped public space featuring play equipment, new seating, new plants and flowerbeds. The 16 seats and flowerbeds are bordered by travertine kerbs that house the trees, shrubs, perennials and ground cover plants that have been planted there. The central exedra also features a new play area of approximately 150 square meters fitted with safety surfacing. In addition to the 26 light points already installed in the park, 19 recessed spotlights will soon illuminate the Aurelian Walls, making them even more striking.
