The dance performance at the Teatro Lido di Ostia, choreographed by Orly Portal, intertwines Arabic music and contemporary languages to harmonize them to give form to the power of the female body.
The work is a dance ritual rooted in myth and spanning centuries of poetry, in which movement suspends time and space, intertwining memories, eras, and latitudes. It finds its generative force in the Tarab—an Arabic concept indicating the state of ecstasy, emotional rapture, or deep emotion induced by listening to music—where movement suspends time and space, intertwining memories, past eras, and latitudes.
In its new version, the work, originally conceived for four dancers, is reworked for an ensemble of twelve, expanding the choreographic writing into a choral dimension and amplifying its expressive impact. The twelve dancers, hailing from different geographical and cultural backgrounds, shape a collective body in which diverse experiences and sensibilities translate into quality of movement, musicality, and stage presence. All this creates a danced ritual of ecstasy and rebirth, where love and pain are transformed into vital energy.
The project was born within the Orly Portal Method School | Europe, as the result of an advanced program of research, training, and choreographic transmission.
