It was built to a design by the architect Costantino Forleo and the engineer Raffaele Boccuni in the years 1956 - 1958 and consecrated by Cardinal Luigi Traglia on 27 May 1965. Two plaques inside the church recall that two popes visited it, Paul VI in 1974 and John Paul II in 1979.
The church is a parish seat, established in 1956 and entrusted to the Rogationist Fathers, owners of the building, whose founder, Annibale Maria Di Francia, is one of the co-titulars of the church. It is also the seat of the cardinal title of Sant'Antonio da Padova in Via Tuscolana.
The exterior of the church of Saints Anthony of Padua and Annibale Maria is characterized by the façade; the latter, with salients, with two slightly pronounced lateral wings, is covered with a wall facing made of rectangular blocks of travertine arranged in several horizontal bands. In the center of the lower part, there are three portals; the middle one, larger than the two lateral ones, is surmounted by a small hanging porch containing a bronze sculpture group with, in the center, Saint Anthony of Padua with Child. On the two lateral portals, instead, there are two mosaics made by Marko Ivan Rupnik and depicting Saint Anthony of Padua (on the left) and Saint Annibale Maria Di Francia (on the right). In the upper part of the facade, there are five large single-lancet windows that give light to the interior.
On the right of the church, there is the parish complex. On the corner between Piazza Asti and Via Tuscolana, the imposing bell tower rises, with a height of 47 meters. It is composed of ten orders and the bell cell; in place of the planned crowning cusp, a pedestal was built, on which rests an iron cross. The bell tower houses a concert of 8 bronzes, in the major diatonic scale of D♭3, cast by the Francesco de Poli foundry of Vittorio Veneto in 1961, one of the concerts of the golden age of the aforementioned foundry, and one of the most appreciated in terms of bells.
The interior of the church of Saints Anthony of Padua and Annibale Maria has three high naves, with side chapels; the side naves are surmounted by the matroneums, which are joined in the counterfaçade by the choir. The church has no apse.
The last span of the central nave is longer than the others and houses the presbytery, modernized in 2009. This year three new polychrome marble furnishings were installed: the ambo, on the left side; the high altar, in the center; the presidential seat, on the right side. In the center, in a rear position, there is the old high altar, which has an alabaster tabernacle and the ciborium, with a particular tetrahedral bronze cover resting on three sturdy green marble pillars. The back wall is entirely covered with a mosaic made in the 1980s and whose theme is Give them yourselves to eat. In the center, Christ is depicted giving material and spiritual nourishment for humanity to Saint Anthony of Padua (on the right) and Saint Annibale Maria Di Francia (on the right); at the bottom, there are the apostles.
On the women's gallery to the left of the presbytery, there is the pipe organ, built in 1972 by the Rosario Chichi organ building company. With electric transmission, it has 17 registers; its console, an independent piece of furniture, is located on the floor and has two keyboards and a pedal board.
