The Society of the Catholic Apostolate (Pallottines), founded in Rome by St. Vincent Pallotti (1795-1850), was blessed on April 4, 1835 by Cardinal Carlo Odescalchi. It has 2,375 members worldwide. The members of the Society live in over 407 houses, spread across more than 40 countries on all continents. The Society is made up of priests and brothers who, for their entire lives, promise it chastity, poverty, obedience, perseverance, communion of goods and a spirit of service. The motto of the Society are the words of the Apostle St. Paul: Caritas Christi urget nos (the charity of Christ impels us).Like every institution of the Catholic Church, the Society of the Catholic Apostolate also has a specific purpose for which it was founded. Its highest reason for being is that which it has in common with the mission of Jesus Christ and the Church, that is, to revive faith and rekindle charity in all members of the People of God and to spread faith and charity in the world, so that there may be as soon as possible one sheepfold under one shepherd. This universal goal, which the entire Church must achieve, is concentrated for the Society in the Catholic apostolate, that is, universal, which for Saint Vincent Pallotti became the guiding idea of his activities and his theological writings. It presupposes that all the baptized are authorized and obliged to fulfill the apostolic mission, each according to his individual and unrepeatable possibilities. This goal is achieved in many cases in the concrete and institutional form of the Union of the Catholic Apostolate. The Union is an association of the faithful who live following the charism of Saint Vincent Pallotti and work for collaboration between lay people, priests and brothers, and religious men and women.
