Beatrice Rana's recital at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, part of the Chamber Music Season of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, explores all the many nuances of the piano as a theatrical instrument.
The evening's rich and varied program includes the impressionistic visions of Claude Debussy's Études (1915), considered among the most difficult piano pieces to play, intertwined with the theatrical atmospheres of Sergej Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet (1935-36) and Pëtr Il'ič Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker (1891-92), before arriving at Prokofiev's three-movement Sonata No. 6 (1945-47), which, written during the dark years of the war, condenses anxiety and modernity. Characterized by a dark and harsh score, the work aims to be both a commemoration of the fallen and a symbol of denunciation of the atrocities of the recently concluded conflict. A musical journey, therefore, that alternates dreamlike vision, virtuosity, and dramatic depth.
