The fountain was originally placed beside to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie that was demolished when Piazza Risorgimento was opened. The fountain is about 3 feet below the street level and can be accessed trough two ramps of curvilinear stairways. Water pours from a travertine shell into the small pond below.
