The iconic and unforgettable Mexican artist is the protagonist of an unmissable photographic exhibition at the Museo Storico della Fanteria, which shows her most authentic and intimate dimension through the most famous images taken by her friend and lover, Nickolas Murray.
Curated by Vittoria Mainoldi, the exhibition is a journey into the painter's private universe in about 60 colour and black and white photographs - displayed for the first time in Rome - taken between 1937 and 1946, portraying Frida Kahlo at various times and places: alone, with Diego Rivera, with friends as well as Murray.
The lens of the photographer, who stands out as a skilled portraitist and pioneer of colour photography, captured an exclusive perspective - as confidant, friend and lover - also revealing Frida Kahlo's connection to Mexican culture, her life and the people who were part of it.
The exhibition path is enriched by the original letters that Frida and Nick wrote to each other during their relationship - an intermittent sentimental bond and a friendship that lasted until Kahlo died in 1954 - rare videos depicting them on different occasions, eight dresses made by indigenous craftswomen in Mexico, inspired by the painter's clothing, handmade jewellery and accessories reflecting her unique style, and a valuable collection of stamps from different countries.
