The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma presents Gaetano Donizetti's dramatic masterpiece, which returns to the stage of the Costanzi Theatre after 45 years in a new production directed by Valentina Carrasco.
Created by the famous composer from Bergamo in 1833 - to a libretto by Felice Romani from the drama of the same name by Victor Hugo - Lucrezia Borgia was first performed at La Scala in Milan in December of the same year.
Amidst intrigues, love and revenge against the background of Renaissance Venice, the opera sees as its protagonist the powerful and beautiful Lucrezia, who, together with her secret son Gennaro, with whom she has a conflictual relationship, faces a tragic epilogue.
On stage are extraordinary bel canto artists - including Lidia Fridman, making her debut at the Costanzi, and Angela Meade, who alternate in the role of Lucrezia Borgia - accompanied by the Orchestra of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, conducted by Roberto Abbado, in a melodrama with evocative and passionate atmospheres.
