The exhibition that the Palazzo delle Esposizioni dedicates to the work of Pietro Ruffo, a multifaceted artist who alternates between painting, architecture, set design, videomaking and literature, is an imaginative journey through the textures of time and space that culminates in a passionate homage to the city of Rome.
Through the more than fifty works created specifically for four rooms on the main floor of the Palazzo, the Roman artist takes a visionary and daring approach to the relationship between human beings and Earth, a complex but potentially “marvelous” relationship. In the largest room, titled “Le Monde Avant la Création de l'Homme”, a primordial forest envelops the entire exhibition space and surrounds visitors with images of plants and minerals, evoking an era when tropical jungles covered much of the landmass. The other rooms of the exhibition are dedicated to the Anthropocene, a geological epoch marked by human presence, whose “marvelous” peculiarities, including abstract thinking and creativity, the artist highlights.
The exhibition ends with a tribute to Rome seen and dissected in its various historical and geological phases: a visual palimpsest created especially for Palazzo delle Esposizioni, which places millennia of evolution under a single gaze.
