The Museo Storico della Fanteria hosts an evocative exhibition dedicated to one of the most brilliant and enigmatic 20th-century Italian artists, an extraordinary interpreter of inner shadows and the most profound complexities of the mind.
Curated by Micol Di Veroli, Dominique Lora and Vittoria Mainoldi, the exhibition path, in chronological order, winds through five areas - Farmyard Animals, Wild Animals, Dogs, Woodland Animals, and Self-Portraits, Flowers and Countryside - and features 64 works, including sculptures, oil paintings, drawings and drypoints, part of a unique private Italian collection, displayed in its entirety for the first time.
The exhibition traces the history and artistic evolution of Antonio Ligabue, offering visitors an intense and unprecedented overview of his work, characterised by a vivid emotional intensity and closely linked to his fragilities and emotions. By exploring the artist's universe, the exhibition is an engaging visual narration of his production, which - liberating him from the label of Naïf - focuses on his artworks by analysing them from the biographical perspective of a tormented, original and creative soul.
