In the Name of Distinction
At a moment when Italy was gradually trying to leave behind the difficulties caused by World War II, Bruno Zampieri, a window dresser not yet in his thirties, had the good foresight to create a laboratory for the production of work clothing.
It was 1949, and the country was rising from the rubble: the grand hotels, restaurants, cafes, clubs, and large private houses were reopening their doors, and trying to revamp them. Bruno Zampieri, stimulated by his young entrepreneurial spirit and having the indispensable support of his wife, Attilia, saw a hole in the market, and launched his first catalog of shirts and uniforms.
Initially, the idea was to create clothes for household staff in private homes. The Roman bourgeoisie, eager to forget the dark times, put their make-up on and showed the world its best face, celebrating high society with glitzy parties and dinners. This is why they went to the Zampieri shop in Via Veneto, to choose the best uniforms for their domestic staff. Their butlers, drivers, waiters, nannies, and gardeners, all had to look impeccable in their uniforms.
Important Roman families like the Ruspolis, Colonnas, Pignatellis, and Doria Pamphiljs, all went and still go to Zampieri 1949, to choose the most elegant liveries for their household staff. Over time, these historic families have been joined by big business names like Agnelli, Pininfarina, Marzotto, Tronchetti Provera, and, overseas, Rocco Forte, Abramovic, and Francis Ford Coppola.
In the 1970s, when his son, Paolo, and his wife, Maria del Carmen – a leading figure in the company – began helping with the management of the business, they expanded and also started serving the hotel and catering industry. Zampieri 1949 became one of the most important work clothing brands, dressing the staff of the best hotels, restaurants, and cafes with elegance and style.
Today, over seventy years after its debut, a member of the third generation can also be found in the shop in Viale Bruno Buozzi, in the heart of the Parioli Pinciano district. Giacomo Zampieri, in line with his father and grandfather’s business idea, is always looking for new channels to extend his outreach. Therefore, they currently also supply staff uniforms to healthcare facilities, embassies, and corporations.
A uniform is, by definition, something that divides and distinguishes. Zampieri 1949 interprets this sign of distinction with class and personality.
