Roma Film Music Festival - 3rd Edition

Roma Film Music Festival - Skyfall in Concert

It gives emotion, empowers images, and has the ability to make them unforgettable.

The Roma Film Music Festival, the eagerly awaited international event celebrating the world of soundtracks and great cinema, is back for its third edition.

The absolute star is, as always, Music and its protagonists, composers and directors, called upon to unveil the secrets of their collaboration with the great authors and their masterpieces in four immersive appointments and a national premiere cine-concert.

The title chosen to relive the adrenaline-fuelled thrills of Britain's most elegant 007 is 007 Skyfall In Concert, coming to the Auditorium Conciliazione for the first time with the voice of Walter Ricci and two replicas: Friday 12 and Saturday 13 April (8.30 p.m.). Directed by Sam Mendes in 2012, the blockbuster film won two Oscars, for Best Sound Editing and Best Song, for the track of the same name performed by Adele), today, after 12 years, it finds a completely unprecedented release. On the big screen Daniel Craig takes on the role of the legendary spy and on the Auditorium stage the full soundtrack signed by Thomas Newman is performed live, in perfect synchrony with the images, by the 90 members of the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema, which, conducted by Anthony Gabriele, is the first Italian symphonic ensemble to have dedicated itself exclusively to the interpretation of soundtracks.

New for this edition is the inauguration of a new space in addition to the Auditorium Conciliazione and the Forum Studios: after careful restoration, the former Teatro Euclide has become the Forum Theatre, an evocative place that breathes the atmosphere and history of the Studios thanks to innovative technological equipment in which four immersive appointments come to life, for an experience that will allow you to listen to soundtracks as you have never done before.

The rich programme of the Roma Film Music Festival also offers four events for three important anniversaries:

  • the 20 years since the death of Piero Piccioni
  • the 30th anniversary of Il Postino;
  • the 100th anniversary of the birth of Harry Mancini, creator of the unforgettable notes of Breakfast at Tiffany's and the Pink Panther.

Monday 8 April, 7.30 p.m. - "Piero Piccioni, omaggio immersivo con musica e immagini" (Piero Piccioni, an immersive tribute with music and images), dedicated to the composer who created some of the most iconic soundtracks in the history of Italian cinema.

Tuesday 9 April, 8.30 pm - "Il postino, Neruda, e Bacalov" (The Postman, Neruda, and Bacalov): three great artists united in a film of eternal poetry. Bacalov's compositions will be played on the bandoneón by Héctor Ulises Passarella, the original performer of the soundtrack, and readings of Neruda's verses will fill the hall, accompanied by the string, piano and percussion quintet of the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema.

Thursday 11 April, 8.30 p.m. - 'Henry Mancini Celebration', to relive the magic of the great Hollywood classics.

Once again this year, the events will be held at the legendary Forum Studios, the recording studios in Piazza Euclide founded by Ennio Morricone, Armando Trovajoli, Piero Piccioni and Luis Bacalov, ready to unveil the magic and the great work behind the scores thanks to the participation of guests such as Peppe Vessicchio and Stefano Fresi, of the talks in the cycle 'I grandi sodalizi del cinema' (Monday 8 April) with composer Fabio Liberatori and Carlo Verdone - no less than 17 productions they have made together, from Borotalco to Vita da Carlo.

On Wednesday 10 April, Andrea Guerra will retrace the creative process in his compositions and his most important partnerships, such as the one with director Ferzan Özpetek, which won him with "Gocce di Memoria", interpreted by Giorgia for La finestra di fronte, Nastro d'argento for Best Original Song and the David di Donatello for Best Musician.

Thursday 11 April - Lele Marchitelli will recount a career of successes: from Avanzi to L'ottavo nano, to The Great Beauty up to the current C'è ancora domani by Paola Cortellesi.

The festival is sponsored by the Ministero della Cultura Direzione Generale Cinema e Audiovisivo and by Roma Capitale - Assessorato ai Grandi Eventi, Sport, Turismo e Moda.
