Six characters in search of an author by Luigi Pirandello

The Sala Umberto Theater stages a 20th century classic, Six Characters in Search of an Author, one of Luigi Pirandello's most revolutionary theatrical works.

The drama performed for the first time at the Teatro Valle in Rome in 1921 completely shocked the public, who found themselves faced with something completely new, which demolished the formalism of bourgeois theatre, a non-plot in which they analyzed not only the theatrical mechanism and artistic creation, but the same relationship between reality and fiction.

In the show at the Sala Umberto, the meta-theatrical plan present in the text is taken to the extreme, producing a short circuit where actors, characters and audience find themselves together every evening: at each performance, in fact, among the actors of the cast others burst onto the stage surprise characters - protagonists of the theatrical scene - who interpret a scene from the show destined to be reproduced infinitely, just like in a mirror, in a game of refractions, which thanks to the technological means available recreates every moment of the text.

Almost a hundred years later, Six Characters in Search of an Author is still the work that best investigates our relationship between life and art, real and virtual, even more so in the current era where everything can be reproduced digitally.
